Most of the people in this world have a fixed schedule for almost everything in their lives. There are many times where I wonder if I am the only one daydreaming of quitting my job just to explore a little, to keep myself in momentum. This time, I decided to take some days off work and head to Oaxaca's coast, composed of a series of unique private beaches at an affordable price.
To get there, I took a flight from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido. Instead of stopping at this famous surf town, I decided to take a taxi and go to Mazunte. I spent two days at a beach just for myself! I would spend the day looking at the few people who walked at the beach. Some were Mexican locals selling "picadillas" (quesadillas but with fish), others were foreigners selling hand-made bracelets, and others "young artists".
Mazunte is undoubtedly the place to go with a book and sleep under a palm tree. No iPhone or any type of gadget needed to enjoy the breath-taking view and to actually live the moment. It is also known for the great variety of turtles you can find there. At the local turtle center, you will find all types of turtles and information about what you can do to avoid extinction.
Even if you get tired and bored from lying under the sun, Mazunte is very close to a beautiful ecological reserve: Punta Cometa. After walking through the jungle for 10 minutes, you will find yourself on a high cliff with nothing but the wind blowing through your face and the ocean around you.
Take a flight back home whenever you feel like the hippie lifestyle might never let you leave this paradise!
